Abstract This study deals with a two-dimensional (2D) contaminant transport problem subject to depth varying input source in finite homogeneous groundwater reservoir. A at the upstream boundary is assumed as location of disposal site pollutant from where enters soil medium and ultimately At extreme flow site, concentration gradient be zero. Contaminant dispersion considered along horizontal vertical directions flow. The governing equation advection–dispersion (ADE) associated linear sorption first-order biological degradation. ADE solved analytically by adopting Laplace transform method. Crank–Nicolson scheme also adopted for numerical simulation modelled problem. In graphical comparison analytical solutions, solution follows very closely solution. Also, Root Mean Square (RMS) error CPU run time are obtained account performance

Finite element analysis of contaminant transport in groundwater
In this paper, we focus on the development of a finite element model for predicting the contaminant concentration governed by the advective–dispersive equation. In this study, we take into account the first-order degradation of the contaminant to realistically model the transport phenomenon in groundwater. To solve the resulting unsteady advection–diffusion equation with production, a finite el...

Simulation of Groundwater Contaminant Transport at a Decommissioned Landfill Site—A Case Study, Tainan City, Taiwan
Contaminant transport in subsurface water is the major pathway for contamination spread from contaminated sites to groundwater supplies, to remediate a contaminated site. The aim of this paper was to set up the groundwater contaminant transport model for the Wang-Tien landfill site, in southwestern Taiwan, which exhibits high contamination of soil and groundwater and therefore represents a pote...
